Jungle Shaco, the non-coinflip build
Hello, this is EagleoftheStars and this is a short guide to the evil clown Shaco, humbled from his glory days as the silent killer.

Change Log
3/16/2011 - Created Guide
3/22/2011 - Added Infinity Edge item path, Added low level disclaimer in rune section

Runes:

9x Marks of Desolation (Armor Pen)
9x Seals of Resilience (Flat Armor)
9x Glyphs of Focus (Flat Cooldown Reduction)
3x Quintessences of Fortitude (Flat HP)

I use these runes because although they're quite generic, they work well with Shaco for jungling. The marks allow you to deal true damage to all the small neutrals excluding the wraiths. The seals give survivability and allow you to not need the boxes to tank for you. The Glyphs allow you to place 5 boxes before the small camps spawn which helps speed up the jungle as I will explain later. The quints are personal preference but I do know it saved my life when I got lazy in popping pots one time leaving me 20hp after clearing blue buff.

After testing a few times on my low level smurf, Shaco cannot jungle at low levels with the 2 Mini-Golems, 3 Lizard path; Stacked Blue path isn't that good either. I will later test if it's the masteries or the runes that are most important.

Masteries:

I got 21/0/9 for extra damage, cooldown redution, and improved buff time.

Not much to really say, but pick up the cooldown reduction instead of AS, 4% isn't that much on Shaco and won't speed up the jungle as much as 3% CDR will.

Summoner Spells:

Smite + Ghost

Smite is absolutely necessary for jungling, nooby Warwicks and Fiddlesticks be damned. As Eve, I personally stole 3 Reds from a no-smite Warwick with Smite also stole a few barons throughout my career, but that's besides the point. Take Smite; it's that important.

Ghost is just a preference; it allows you to chase and escape.

Ignite can be useful for securing early kills or countering mundo and such.
Exhaust will help slow down enemies and gain the edge 1v1.
Teleport is nice for box ganks or gimmicky strategies.
Flash will be you escape or catch up when Deceive is on cooldown.

Build:

Many Bulky or HP stackers (I say bulky because MBR doesn't really phaze full-out tanks)
Cloth Armor + 5 Health Potions
Boots of Speed
Wriggle's Lantern
Boots of Mobility
Madred's Bloodrazer (Component priorities are: Pickaxe, Recurve Bow, Madred's Razor)
Banshee's Veil/Sunfire Cape depending on whether Physical or Magical is more threatening at the time
Sunfire Cape/Banshee's Veil build the one you didn't build last time
Guardian Angel

Many squishies or polarized team (Tank or Squishy with little in-between)
Cloth Armor + 5 Health Potions
Boots of Speed
Wriggle's Lantern
Boots of Mobility
Infinity Edge (Component priorities are: BF Sword, Pickaxe, Critical Cloak)
Last Whisper (At this point it depends on how well your team is doing; if they can protect you, grab Last Whisper, if not, go straight to the defensive items and delay Last Whisper to after 1 or 2 defensive items)
Banshee's Veil/Sunfire Cape depending on whether Physical or Magical is more threatening at the time
Sunfire Cape/Banshee's Veil build the one you didn't build last time
Guardian Angel

The game's never gotten far enough after this to really think about so just build situationally after that.

Jungling:

You're going to want to buy your items quickly and plant 2 Boxes at Mini-golems and 3 Boxes at Lizard buff; if you do it correctly and quickly enough, you should have a few seconds to spare before small camps spawn.

Now that you've done that, go use smite on the Big Wraith when it spawns. After that, ignore the small wraiths and go to mini-golems, dragging them to the 2 boxes and drop one behind the golems while you kill them, remembering to drink potions. You should level at this point; take a level in Shiv, it's blind helps keep up your Hp while jungling.

Now move on to the Red buff and lure the Lizard to the 3 Boxes and drop boxes behind the lizard while fighting, not forgetting to pop some pots. You should level after clearing the camp, picking up an extra rank in Boxes.

Using 1 box each, clear the remaining wraiths and then the wolves. Now confront the Ancient Golem, dropping boxes behind it; you should be able to clear without too much trouble as long as you remember to use smite and drop boxes. Now at lvl 4, you can take Deceive and start ganking.

What should you do if they pop your boxes?

Switch to Blue Golem and start there, you only really need 1 or 2 boxes to take it down.

If they have a jungler?

If you wish to counter-jungle, Shaco is great at disrupting enemy jungles; after you clear red buff, instead of getting a 2nd rank of Boxes, get your first rank of Deceive. Then head to the enemy jungle and stack boxes either at red buff or the wraith-mid bushes and ambush the jungler on their way to the other side.

Skilling Order:

If everything goes normally, it should look like:

W E W Q

After that, Max out E followed by Q and leave W last.

Q: Deceive
Early game, this is your gap closer and your burst damage, allowing you to gank like a beast
Mid to late game, it's used as an escape, rendering you almost ungankable

Btw try to blink over walls or in the opposite way if they are all bunched together chasing you, if you just go straight, ghosting might still catch you.

W: Jack in the Boxes
They help Shaco jungle so easily and quickly while providing a safeward against ganking later in the game.

E: Shiv
Great skill; it allows you to get red buff first and still be able to gank well, keeping the enemy at a snail's pace while running.

Also able to activate to kill them from a distance when they think they're safe and you don't/can't tower dive them safely.

R: Hallucination
Your clone. This is the pro Starcraft player's golden tool. I personally don't have the micro to make it a convincing fake, but one situation is always good: Running straight down mid lane. Hit R and tell your clone to go top/bot while you go the opposite direction; it forces them to choose and they just might choose wrong. Another usage is to ult in a bush and send the clone out first and let the enemy unload all their CC/Ults on the clone, letting you murder them unimpeded.

Early game:

After you clear your jungle, you can gank like mad, but make sure to stay farmed and leveled as too many ganks, unless its constant legendary, may make you underleveled.

Mid Game:

They're starting to group up, making it harder for you to pick off anyone in particular, but just farm and keep the map warded waiting for an opportunity.

Note that with his ult and Wriggle's Lantern, Shaco can safely solo dragon; ult and make your Clone attack first, taking aggro. Then the real Shaco attacks from behind for bonus damage and save Q to blink ove r the wall in case the enemy shows up. Although Shaco can solo dragon, it's recommended that you have your team to help speed it up.

Late game:

It's full-blown teamfight mode and you're likely very squishy now, having just finished your Bloodrazor, but fret not. Hang back and wait till their CC is blown and burst down a squishy, getting out before they redirect their focus to you. After bloodrazor, begin building tanky so you can eventally hang in the fights a little longer. Sunfire combined with Bloodrazor splits your DPS into Magic and Physical allowing you to still deal significant damage to tanks focusing on only 1 defence as well as murder squishies.

Conclusion:

Shaco is not underpowered or even bad, just misunderstood and not many people know how to play him well; he's not tanky dps; he's a squishy dps so play safe and gank like the evil demon clown you are.

Excellent guide, although I still think he got nerfed a little over the edge. Still one of the best jungle guides I've seen.

Agreed, I just want the clone to look like he has the same items/buffs as me

Good guide. I've always had a problem jungling Shaco and I'm sure not going to lane with him (that's just silly). I might try this guide out and see how it works for me.

Do you find that Madred's Bloodrazor is always necessary, or is that just a suggestion? I find that many of the teams I face aren't stacking that much health to make its main benefit so useful.

I don't think Madred's Bloodrazor is really a 100% item, but the games I play recently always have health stacks and my playstyle supports tanky after MBR since it scales well.

However, if they don't have much hp stackers like say DPS Mundo or Vlad or something, get Infinity Edge; I'm pretty sure it affects your Deceive damage

On a side note, I'm adding in IE item path; thanks for the help

Critical Strike Damage does affect a Deceive critical strike, so an Infinity Edge should also be able to increase the damage done. I tried this with the Critical Strike Damage mastery, however, so it may be different. It should be the same though.

I think Shaco can crit up to about 430% with runes and masteries, roughly.

???

Are you adding the crit damage % multiplicatively or additively?

I think he's adding it exponentially...

I think, but am unsure, because I read it in this guide:
http://www.mobafire.com/league-of-legend...insane-417

"When to buy Infinity = When there are are shitloads of CC/Squishies and/or the on the other team, buffing your crit dmg to 250%, with runes you get 300%, and then Decieve will buff it further up to 430% crit dmg, 439% crit dmg with talents, 150% increased base dmg if you have Triforce, and on top of it all 25% more dmg when hitting from behind! INSANE"

I was including late-game items, too. I think the guide's correct, but I could be wrong.
