Communism? The System or the People?
In a another post influenced by U.S History course; I don't understand the prevalent hatred for Communism.

Is it the execution in real life that sparks the discontent? Is remnants of the Red Scares? Maybe some people just dislike the system?

I've no problem with it personally, just that it seems to have been executed poorly and thus caused a huge stigma upon Communism in general.

In communism, everything is shared equally, so the system allows everyone to be lethargic and eventually unproductive as a whole (because why work hard when you're getting your "fair share" regardless?); that's the main problem I can see in communism.

I think I'll let you suffer for a while...

RE: Communism? The System or the People?
I always say Socialism Yes, Communism No.

People often confuse the two, mistaking them to be the same, but they aren't. This day an age, Communism is basically Dictated Socialism. Countries like Cuba and North Korea are communist, but unlike the 60's they no longer hide behind the once stalin/marxist idea of Social Communism, and have basically solidified the government structure of Communism as their own separate way of governing.

Socialism is a good idea, but its next to impossible to achieve because its basically Utopia. Karl Marx had the right idea, but soon after Stalin basically took it and twisted it in his own retarded way, bringing about Communism, whilst hiding behind the ideal of Socialism.

I don't care for a Communistic government; Secret Police and Government forced/sanctioned seizing of property is not how Socialism is achieved, is how it becomes screwed up. If there is a country that ever succeeds in the true ideal of Socialism, it'll be blown off the face of the planet by USA because that's just how we roll.

So I think Socialism is a great idea, but its execution by governments such as China, North Korea, Pre-Cold War Russia, Vietnam, Cuba, and parts of Africa have all turned into varying degrees of Communism, most of which were carved with the bodies of many people and wars.

I thought the same way for a while about Communism that what's so bad about it because in High School it sounded freakin awesome, just people were doing it wrong. After I took my college course in European Social Governments and Ideas, I realized what I was fond of was in-fact Socialism, and not Communism.

The countries that we normally associate with being "communist" are moreso dictatorships than communistic. It's this perception of communism that these countries create that leads people to dislike it.

As far as the system itself, in theory it's a good idea, but it's just impossible to achieve.

Yeah Socialism seems to more fit my bill now that I've looked into it a bit.

On a side note, Animal Farm is a great book, but I didn't realize it was symbolic when I first read it

For me it's also the fact that most of the times we hear of Communism it's the times when it's a nation that uses it and does horrible things.

If people could find a way to follow the path but not become power hungry or the need to kill everyone then perhaps it would work.

What David said.

The very idea of communism, I have nothing against. An equality among all people? Why not!

However, to succesfully run such a system... is simply impossible, and will remain impossible, for a long, long, time. Maybe even forever, who knows?

Also, what flamedance said is true, as well. But for people to stop being power-hungry and violent... boy, do we have lots of evolution to do!
